David harkey was one of magic's most creative thinkers when he burst onto hte scene with this book. The follow up book, simpley harkey, was amazing as well. His style, creativity, and artistic ideas weer unequaled. And the ideas ni his books are as fresh today as they were 20 years ago. As a matter of fact, one of the routines in this book, spotweld, was recently released by pengiun magic as a new effect, with no credit to harkey! There are 12 solid, original harkey creations here. Included arespotweld spectator seletcs a spot on a wrapped drinking straw. The magician then melts the straw together, inside the wrapper, leaving his fingerprints embedded in the plastic. State of the art the magician rolls a glob of silly putty into a donut shape, then seals it into it's plastic egg. Then, after making a borrowed ring vanish, adn showing both sides of his hands empty, he dumps the putty from it's container. eH then tears the silly putty sculpture open, revealing the borrowed ring inside. Clear cut spectator cuts the aces in the cleanest manner possible. The spectator honestly cuts four piles. The deck is borrowed. At no time does the performer pick up any of the packets. Body language a startling production of four coins. The performer shows both hands empty, then mimcis a coin toss. Each time he pretends to flip a coin into the air and slap it onto the back of his hand, a real coin appears, one after another. In the round in leaving a restaurant, the performer offers a white lifesaver to each of his guests.
He then buys a roll of colored lifesavers from the cashier. The performer removes a white lifesaver from his open roll and squeezes it, causeing it to change into a colored lifesaver. After the cashier confirms that the new roll of colored lifesavers is untampered with, she breaks the roll open, and inside discovers the missing white lifesaver! Encounter after choosing a card, the spectator places it face-up and outjogged into the center of the deck. The the spectator freely names a number, and pushes his card flush with the deck. Immediately, the spectator counts teh cards one at a time, finding his face-up selection at his freely chosen number! Forced entry the magician holds up a sealed can of soda, and with his fingers nowhere nera the top of the can, forces the can open with the sheer power of his mind! Money tree we've all heard the expression, money doesn't grow on trees. But what if it did? Imagine showing your hands empy, reaching up and plucking coins off an imaginary branch, one after another. Hotspot the performer stands a brightly shining penlight uprigth on the table and drapes a napkin over it. Then, with the light glowing through the napkin, he slowly forces the penlight through the table, causing the glow to sink visibly into the table top!
After lifting the napkin to shwo that the penlight has vanished, the performer raises the penlight, still shining, from beneath the table. G-force this idea allows you to force a pre-determined card, after handing teh deck to a spectator to shuffle, without having to shift the cards in any way, without having to look at the faces of the cards, and without having to palm, sleeve, or lap anything. Ping! David's climax for coin in bottle. The performer shakes the bottle under the nose of the spectator, allowing him to clearly see the coin rattling inside.
Then, after the spectator corks the bottle, the performer smacks the corked mouth, causing the coin the visibly penetraet the bottom of the bottle with a resounding ping and land in the spectator's cupped hands beneath. Dipped in silver the magician places a silver thimble on his outstretched index finger.
After letting it sit there a moment, he removes the thimble and tosses it into the air. He then lunges forward, and visibly catches it on his finger! Pound for pound oen of my favorite magic books. I still ergularly perform more routines from this book than any other.
I perform spotweld at almost any given opportunity, and people atlk about that trick long afterwards. This is a great collection, and one that is not easily found. You will love this book. Good ulck bidders!
